DEWA BUDJANA Jazz Rock/Fusion • Indonesia

Dewa BUDJANA is a guitarist and composer from Waikabubak. Influenced by both popular music as the leader and songwriter of the band GIGI and jazz rock from his earlier background, BUDJANA started his solo career in the late 90's after almost 20 years of his musical career.

His earlier band like SQUIRREL was already more inventive in the 80's by relying on BUDJANA's original compositional skills rather than working on covers like most of the other local jazz bands. One of the award winning works in that time was a composition called 'Nusa Damai' which would later become the name of his first solo album. Throughout the 80's he would also work as a session player and with other bands until 1993 when he founded GIGI which has a major success to this day.

Besides being a producer as well, BUDJANA has been working on his solo career that mixes fusion the likes of other known guitarists like John MCLAUGHLIN and Bill FRISSELL with traditional music of Indonesia, making his approach to world fusion experimental but also approachable at the same time.

Yo-Yo Ma - Fusion Classic Jazz

Yo-Yo Ma (born October 7, 1955) is a French-born American cellist. Born in Paris, he spent his schooling years in New York City and was a child prodigy, performing from the age of four and a half. He graduated from the Juilliard School and Harvard University and has enjoyed a prolific career as both a soloist performing with orchestras around the world and a recording artist. He has recorded more than 90 albums and received 18 Grammy Awards. In addition to recordings of the standard classical repertoire, he has recorded a wide variety of folk music such as American bluegrass music, traditional Chinese melodies, the tangos of Argentinian composer Ástor Piazzolla, and Brazilian music. He has also collaborated with Grammy Award-winning jazz singer Bobby McFerrin, as well as five-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and guitarist James Taylor. Ma's primary performance instrument is a Montagnana cello crafted in 1733 valued at US$2.5 million.

The album from Yo-Yo Ma & the Silk Road Ensemble will surprise and delight with imaginative sounds that transform the traditional musical landscape. Sing Me Home is the sixth album by the Grammy®-nominated Silk Road Ensemble and its founding member and guiding light, Yo-Yo Ma. The album features special guest performers Rhiannon Giddens, Sarah Jarosz, Abagail Washburn, Gregory Porter, Lisa Fischer, Grammy Award®-winning jazz guitarist, Bill Frisell and more.
Produced by Silk Road Ensemble member Johnny Gandelsman and Grammy Award® winner Kevin Killen (U2, Kate Bush, Elvis Costello, David Bowie), Sing Me Home examines the ever-changing idea of home, with original and traditional tunes composed or arranged by members of the Ensemble s unique collective of global artists. Each piece invites listeners to explore the music of home through the individual experiences of Ensemble members, many of whom are immigrants. The result is a compelling collection of innovative and deeply moving tributes to the rich cultural heritage of the Balkans, China, Galicia, India, Iran, Ireland, Japan, Mali people of Roma, Syria and the United States.
Sing Me Home is a companion album, developed and recorded alongside The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma & the Silk Road Ensemble, a documentary feature film from Oscar® and Emmy®-winning director Morgan Neville that tells the story of the Ensemble and Silk Road, its parent organization. The Music of Strangers will be released theatrically nationwide in June and will air on HBO in the fall.

A surprisingly good collaboration from two virtuosos of their given instruments. Bobby McFerrin, the master of the voice, and Yo-yo Ma, the master of the cello, combined to perform various pieces, from classical, traditional, and contemporary classical sectors. Some of the McFerrin compositions are quite amazing simply as compositions to begin with, but when the cello and vocal performances are added, they become something even more exciting. More than likely, the main highlight on the album is Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee," which is performed on a dual line by both musicians and allows an ample chance to note the amazing virtuosity of McFerrin, once you can distinguish the voice from the cello (yes, they follow the lines that close). For any fan of either musician, it's a wonderful find of an album.

3rd Force - Smooth Jazz

3rd Force is a smooth jazz band on the EMI Higher Octave label, consisting of trio William Aura, Craig Dobbin, and Alain Eskinasi.[1] Founded in 1994 by William Aura after a prolific solo career in new-age music, he, Dobbin, and Eskinasi immediately set out working on their self-titled debut album, 3rd Force which was released that same year. After the album's commercial success, the trio continued the studio project with their next release, Force of Nature in 1995. This album garnered an even bigger success than their debut spawning the popular single Here Comes the Night featuring guest guitarist Peter White. After a two-year break, 3rd Force released their 3rd album Vital Force in 1997. The album gained 3rd Force's second hit single You Gotta Be Real once again featuring guest guitarist Peter White. The 4th album, called Force Field, was released in 1999 resulting in another of the band's singles Revelation of the Heart, with guest saxophonist Paul Taylor. In 2000 Higher Octave released a best-of compilation of 3rd Force, entitled Collective Force, which featured the band's best hits in both radio and fan favorites, along with two new songs, Dance With Me and Sweet Surrender. 2002 saw the release of their 5th studio album, Gentle Force, which showcased a mellower jazz sound than the band's usual output. Three years later,3rd Force released Driving Force in 2005. Their latest release showcases a completely opposite style than the previous Gentle Force album which was almost lounge-style mellow jazz in sound. Driving Force, however, features a funky lively jazz mix never before heard in 3rd Force's music. The most popular singles from their latest release are Believe In Me, featuring the trumpeter Greg Adams, keyboardist Jeff Lorber, and guitarist Brian Hughes, and You Got It, featuring guitarist Marc Antoine. After more than a 10 year hiatus, 3rd Force reunited to release "Global Force" in 2016. Throughout the course of their career, 3rd Force has performed with numerous guest musicians including guitarists Peter White, Marc Antoine, Acoustic Alchemy, Grant Geissman, Brian Hughes, Craig Chaquico, Earl Klugh, Shahin Shahida of Shahin and Sepehr, and saxophonists Paul Taylor, Tom Scott, Dave Koz, Eric Marienthal, Jimmy Sommers, Bryan Savage, Richard Elliot, Boney James, Eric Darius, Ozzie Ahlers, Euge Groove, Rick Braun, and Lawson Rollins.

Catalyst - Funk & Jazz

Uma banda interessante...

In the early 70's a band named Catalyst was formed in the heart of Philadelphia. The core of the group was Odean Pope, Sherman Ferguson, Eddie Green and Al Johnson (who was replaced by Tyrone Brown after their first album). The band drew from a wide range of musical styles; jazz, funk, R & B, avant garde and fusion all found their way into the creative sonic tapestry of Catalyst. With the given talents of Catalyst they could have and should have been bigger but sadly they found themselves with little promotion or recognition outside the proximity of Philadelphia. Thankfully Catalyst were able to leave behind four extraordinary recordings that will appeal to both jazz heads and those in the hip hop community.

Zoot Sims - Jazz...

John Haley "Zoot" Sims (October 29, 1925 - March 23, 1985) was an American jazz saxophonist, playing mainly tenor and soprano. n the 1950s and '60s, Sims had a long, successful partnership as co-leader of a quintet with Al Cohn, which recorded under the name "Al and Zoot". That group was a favorite at New York City's Half Note Club. Always fond of the higher register of the tenor sax, Zoot also liked to play alto and late in his career added the soprano saxophone to his performances, while recording a series of albums for the Pablo Records label of impresario Norman Granz. Zoot also played on some of Jack Kerouac's recordings. Sims acquired the nickname "Zoot" early in his career while he was in the Kenny Baker band in California. The name was later appropriated for a sax-playing Muppet. Zoot Sims died in New York City of cancer on March 23, 1985,and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Nyack, New York
